A new exhibit at The Wigwam Gallery in Altus features 16 works of art from 14 different artists as it examines the concept of transformation, both literally and figuratively. See it at the Wigwam Gallery through June 30, 2023.
24 Works on Paper | OVAC
The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition biennial 24 Works on Paper exhibition is the only traveling show of art by living Oklahomans. Exactly 24 artworks created on paper are included.
Look Again
This exhibit showcases seventeen works by fifteen Oklahoma artists. Each piece invites the viewer to pause and consider what these artworks mean and how they make us feel. There are not always obvious or even correct answers, but our interpretations and understandings can change when we choose to look again.

Flatstyle art: Bacone School
Flatstyle art is a Native American painting style from the 20th century with a distinctive look that emphasizes form or shape and features either minimal or no perspective and shading. The Bacone Style, the focus of this exhibit, refers to a type of Flatstyle art from the 1930s through the 1980s that originated from Bacone College in Muskogee, OK.

Expression: What They Say
This exhibit, “Expression: What They Say,” explores expression in art, traditionally depicted through portraits. Whether it’s a painting, photograph, sculpture or other media, a portrait depicts a person whose face is the prominent feature. For centuries, portraits have memorialized great people and conveyed expressions and emotion.
Half a Lifetime: The Art of Woodrow Wilson Crumbo
The 39 pieces in this exhibit at The Wigwam Gallery feature the art of Woodrow “Woody” Crumbo as he tells the visual story of his Native American people.

“The Power and the Glory: Landscapes of the American West” features a variety of dramatic landscapes from the American West and contains plates which explain the significance of the ecology/geography presented in these works and the relationships of people with the landscapes displayed.
Mopope
The Mopope show is an exhibition of flat style paintings by the famous 20th century Kiowa artist Stephen Mopope — a member of the painter’s group called the Kiowa Six whose work helped to popularize Native North American art in the international art world.
Small Wonders
Artists featured in this exhibit of small works include Merlin Little Thunder, Harold Holden, Virginia Stroud, Chessney Sevier, Benjamin Harjo Jr. and Brent Learned.
Rikk Traweek Stolen Art Exhibition: A Retrospective
This exhibit features the art by Texas artist Rikk Traweek, a studio painter and printmaker who has displayed his work in regional and national shows and galleries over his 25-year art career. Traweek refers to the art in this collection on display for the Wigwam Gallery as “stolen art” because he sells almost all the art he produces. His wife has hidden pieces from him to keep for their collection, and this exhibit features the works she has “stolen.”
Native State of Mind
The show features artwork by Native American artists with Oklahoma ties who are active or were active during the 1960s through the 1990s. It also highlights current Native American artist Mike Larsen, who was recently inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame for his exceptional works representing Native American culture.
Trailblazers: The Role of Horses in Native American and Western Art
Trailblazers is an exhibition that pays homage to the vital role horses played in the development of Western civilizations particularly with Native American and cowboy groups.
ARCHIVE: Birds flock together in new art exhibit
Artists take a look at birds in a new art exhibit at NBC Oklahoma’s Wigwam Gallery in Altus.
The exhibit’s spotlight artist is D.J. Lafon, an Ogden, Utah, native, who spent most of his career in Oklahoma. Other featured artists include Marvin Begaye, Bill Cale, Cecil dink, Mikel Donahue, Veryl Goodnight, Harold Holden, Paul Moore, Tom Palmore, Bert Seabourn, Eric Tippeconnic, Ed Trask and Rikk Traweek.
