MEDIA PRESS RELEASE

July 25, 2022

“From the Vault: New and Seldom-Seen Work From the NBC Oklahoma Collection” will be on view at the Wigwam Gallery in Altus, OK, through Aug. 26.

See 25 pieces from 21 Oklahoma artists in this show. All are either new acquisitions or pieces that haven’t been seen at any of NBC’s bank locations, said Jarrod Fergeson, the exhibit’s curator and NBC’s director of art collection.

The show includes a wide variety of artists and styles as well as artists from different eras.

The oldest painting is the 1939 painting by Margo Hoff called “Football Yugoslavia.” A Tulsa native, Hoff exhibited paintings around the United States, eventually moving to New York in 1960. The NBC painting is a good representation of her earlier work.

The exhibit also includes works by contemporary artists, Ed Ruscha and Julie Marks Blackstone.  Ruscha was the subject of a recent major retrospective at Oklahoma Contemporary, looking at his international influence on contemporary art. Blackstone is a well-known fiber artist and a professor at Oklahoma Baptist University.

Other artists featured in the show are Harold Stevenson, Joe Goode, Bert Seabourn and Amber Duboise-Shepherd.

“I wanted a wide a variety while still having a show that looked cohesive,” Fergeson said. “NBC Oklahoma has a long history of supporting art and artists in Oklahoma through public commissions and its private collection, much of which is on display at its banks. This exhibit is an interesting selection that comes from NBC’s own vaults and that the public hasn’t had a chance to see.”

See it by appointment by calling the bank at 580-477-1100. For interviews related to this exhibit, contact Lillie-Beth Brinkman, Communications Director. See more about NBC and the gallery, as well as the latest art news, at both nbcwigwam.art or nbc.bank/art.
